CASE STUDY: UNIVERSAL EV POWERTRAIN TEST RIG

This case study highlights how iASYS delivered a Universal EV Powertrain Testrig for a leading Japanese OEM, enabling validation of multiple drivetrain Units Under Test (UUTs) on a single, integrated test platform. By combining mechanical driveline systems, high-performance dynamometers, Orbit-T–based automation, and fast, synchronized data acquisition, the solution addressed increasing validation complexity across conventional and electrified powertrains. The integrated test infrastructure improved testing flexibility, reduced capital expenditure, simplified operations, and ensured accurate, repeatable Road Load Simulation (RLS) for both component-level and powertrain-level testing. This future-ready platform supports EV motors, CVTs, transmissions, and differentials while delivering high-fidelity real-world load reproduction across a wide operating envelope.

Universal EV Powertrain Testrig for Multi-UUT Validation

Use case: – The use case focused on universal EV powertrain and component testing,
enabling validation of EV motors, CVTs, transmissions, and differentials on
a single integrated test platform.

Goal: – The goal was to achieve accurate, repeatable, and flexible testing across
multiple drivetrain Units Under Test while reducing setup time, capital
expenditure, and overall laboratory footprint.

Challenges:- The customer faced challenges in testing multiple drivetrain components
on one platform, supporting both component-level and powertrain-level
testing, executing accurate and repeatable Road Load Simulation,
capturing high-speed synchronized data across mechanical and electrical
domains, and simplifying day-to-day operation despite the system’s
technical complexity.

Results :- The solution delivered a 40–50% reduction in CAPEX and lab footprint,
reduced setup and changeover time by 40–60%, enabled multi-UUT testing
on a single integrated platform, ensured accurate Road Load Simulation
with high control fidelity, and established a scalable, future-ready test
architecture.
